Just pitched our idea

Things went pretty well, had a last minute panic when I was told that I was not presenting what I thought I was and instead of having a prepared talk, I had to improvise, but this was easy as I talked about similar things (other posters and flyers) and was able to improvise as Gavin spoke before me and I was able to use his pitch to bounce ideas from.

The two dudes were definitely much happier and more impressed with our designs, I hope to see the feedback later. The group pitched the idea very well I thought and we talked together, as a group. I am not sure why, but today was the first day that I truly felt I was a part of the group and I was pleased to see some of my own designs being pitched, that made it all so much more enjoyable.

It's funny that I was happy about my own work, considering I didn't talk about it and talked about designs from gavin and chris.

I got saved a couple of times like when they asked about the photography and cameron or gavin butted in and said how the photos were taken and how I had imported photos in, even though none of that work was mine.

All I can say is good save, good save.

Time to update I suppose

bEEN wOrking like a mad man today. Getting poster designs made, this is the type of work I feel I excel at, when development had been done. The posters can be found on my group blog along with work from the rest of the group. Everyone is pulling their weight and I think I"m starting to be a team member and not a side kick which is pretty cool. although I was told to make posters, I am unsure whether the group has already made their final decision. Designs have been made already but mine have a different flare to them. Possibly an unwanted flare but flare none-the-less.

Post regarding client presentation

Well, it went well, in the sense that we got feedback we needed and managed to get a bigger idea of what the client likes. I got confused about my hands as we presented ourselves and I realised that when talking your hands have to be somewhere. This is obvious to most but when you're in a talk it becomes a million dollar question that can't be answered. I settled for thumbs in pockets like a Texan.

The talk was smooth but the feedback and comments made me feel a little unsure of the situation. They gave us constructive criticism which in my view was negative, as they wanted to dislike our work but be polite, but I could be wrong.

They disliked the logo which I had felt very strongly represented what they wanted to do. This was a huge setback as I thought the group had grasped the idea of techno-house whilst I was left in the dirt trying to follow but I suppose it was the same challenge for them now.

Gotta learn that I can pull off the same as the group, but in a group of such strong team mates, I suppose it left me feeling more like a sidekick and I generally stood aside to help with additional work while our leading team members made their own websites.

Big learning curve for the sake of team work, communication and low self esteem. I think this has been particularly informative. I hope in the next week I can provide more for the team and pull back our ranking, as I have a sneaky suspicion that the two DJ's have already chosen a favourite and may choose it despite whatever attempts we make, but we have to try and beat it. Last chance at a win.

Needed to edit flash

The sizes were wrong for the website so. I needed 800x600 but had 800x400. Why? I have no idea, I was pretty positive I'd asked previously and put in 800x600 but never mind. Been listening to the music on the site at home, and understand the genre now. It's pretty close to what I was thinking so it's cool I was going in the right direction. The flash work is complete and is being placed in dreamweaver to use with gavin's website.

Now a little confused on what to do, handing in that portfolio monday was probably a bad choice (in the sense of the group) as they have got so much against my little contribution. Everyone is kind of doing their own things with 3 websites being made and I guess no one minds me doing extra stuff as opposed to full websites (since it isn't my strong point) unless they are just being very polite.

I have been turning up and doing sketches but I am no where near as focused as my group members who are loving the style of illustration associated with this kind of event and music. I on the other hand, am lost and just don't understand the method of thinking for this style of work. Different people, different minds.

Time to post!

Forgot to post here after being busy with the group blog, and basically entering what I'd normally enter here, There!

Well, I couldn't have predicted we'd be making promotional images for DJ's of Aberdeen trying to start a techno night in Aberdeen bars like drummonds and snafu etc.

Has been a challenge as techno is out of my knowledge (much Like explaining the internet to the elderly), so have been trying to pick up knowledge of this music and it's backgrounds along the way. My designs were made to be colourful and illustrative in nature but I have no idea how they'll be taken as the nature of the music might be less light hearted and more artistic.

I'm trying designs that appear to be vector based (just practice) and they look suitable for such an event but might just be pointing in the wrong direction. I require the feedback of the group and lecturers as I don't know whether to boast or drop my head in shame.
