Kiosk design

Ok, maybe i can do this after all. Trying to not relax but not stress at the same time as both things lead to a worse production rate.

I relax, then fall behind, and i stress, so i can't even concentrate and end up taking so much time to do anything that it's just as bad (except more work done and a load more fatigue).

I got the plan of basically hitting each unit on the head up till exhibition time, i want to concentrate on doing kiosk this week, exhibit stuff next week and doing graded + 3d during time inbetween.

It's hard to find my balance but I think I'm doing it, although im struggling.

The designs shown here are messy examples, there may be typos and colour problems present, but just to spread the word of the Bunny, here it is!

Today is Friday

And I never realised that urgency to work would make things more difficult, seems to take ages to do anything because I'm freaking out that I wont be able to do it all in time.

what a stupid paradox in my mind.

Working on portfolio intro on flash, I'd post it but blogger doesn't seem to like swf files. So to explain, it starts with me next to the fire, all cool with a whiskey and a dressing gown, offering the viewer to check out my portfolio.
I made mouths into graphics that I can just pull out of the library and place in appropriate places for lip syncing. Seems to be working exceedingly well, my background needs a little work though.

corporate my mind

Yup, been working on sketches and ideas for my exhibition. I also did a commission this week for a friend, which is completely wreckless and stupid considering my situation with work (I have quite a few units to do).

This week has consisted of getting that out of the way and starting my exhibition stuff, along with graded unit resit stuff (again, yes, I'm a fool for letting this get out of hand). It seems the chaos of everything has actually began to reform me as i get up much better and work much much more frequently than previously. it still always seems that time is short though, so Im gonna stop typing.

Just pitched our idea

Things went pretty well, had a last minute panic when I was told that I was not presenting what I thought I was and instead of having a prepared talk, I had to improvise, but this was easy as I talked about similar things (other posters and flyers) and was able to improvise as Gavin spoke before me and I was able to use his pitch to bounce ideas from.

The two dudes were definitely much happier and more impressed with our designs, I hope to see the feedback later. The group pitched the idea very well I thought and we talked together, as a group. I am not sure why, but today was the first day that I truly felt I was a part of the group and I was pleased to see some of my own designs being pitched, that made it all so much more enjoyable.

It's funny that I was happy about my own work, considering I didn't talk about it and talked about designs from gavin and chris.

I got saved a couple of times like when they asked about the photography and cameron or gavin butted in and said how the photos were taken and how I had imported photos in, even though none of that work was mine.

All I can say is good save, good save.

Time to update I suppose

bEEN wOrking like a mad man today. Getting poster designs made, this is the type of work I feel I excel at, when development had been done. The posters can be found on my group blog along with work from the rest of the group. Everyone is pulling their weight and I think I"m starting to be a team member and not a side kick which is pretty cool. although I was told to make posters, I am unsure whether the group has already made their final decision. Designs have been made already but mine have a different flare to them. Possibly an unwanted flare but flare none-the-less.

Post regarding client presentation

Well, it went well, in the sense that we got feedback we needed and managed to get a bigger idea of what the client likes. I got confused about my hands as we presented ourselves and I realised that when talking your hands have to be somewhere. This is obvious to most but when you're in a talk it becomes a million dollar question that can't be answered. I settled for thumbs in pockets like a Texan.

The talk was smooth but the feedback and comments made me feel a little unsure of the situation. They gave us constructive criticism which in my view was negative, as they wanted to dislike our work but be polite, but I could be wrong.

They disliked the logo which I had felt very strongly represented what they wanted to do. This was a huge setback as I thought the group had grasped the idea of techno-house whilst I was left in the dirt trying to follow but I suppose it was the same challenge for them now.

Gotta learn that I can pull off the same as the group, but in a group of such strong team mates, I suppose it left me feeling more like a sidekick and I generally stood aside to help with additional work while our leading team members made their own websites.

Big learning curve for the sake of team work, communication and low self esteem. I think this has been particularly informative. I hope in the next week I can provide more for the team and pull back our ranking, as I have a sneaky suspicion that the two DJ's have already chosen a favourite and may choose it despite whatever attempts we make, but we have to try and beat it. Last chance at a win.

Needed to edit flash

The sizes were wrong for the website so. I needed 800x600 but had 800x400. Why? I have no idea, I was pretty positive I'd asked previously and put in 800x600 but never mind. Been listening to the music on the site at home, and understand the genre now. It's pretty close to what I was thinking so it's cool I was going in the right direction. The flash work is complete and is being placed in dreamweaver to use with gavin's website.

Now a little confused on what to do, handing in that portfolio monday was probably a bad choice (in the sense of the group) as they have got so much against my little contribution. Everyone is kind of doing their own things with 3 websites being made and I guess no one minds me doing extra stuff as opposed to full websites (since it isn't my strong point) unless they are just being very polite.

I have been turning up and doing sketches but I am no where near as focused as my group members who are loving the style of illustration associated with this kind of event and music. I on the other hand, am lost and just don't understand the method of thinking for this style of work. Different people, different minds.

Time to post!

Forgot to post here after being busy with the group blog, and basically entering what I'd normally enter here, There!

Well, I couldn't have predicted we'd be making promotional images for DJ's of Aberdeen trying to start a techno night in Aberdeen bars like drummonds and snafu etc.

Has been a challenge as techno is out of my knowledge (much Like explaining the internet to the elderly), so have been trying to pick up knowledge of this music and it's backgrounds along the way. My designs were made to be colourful and illustrative in nature but I have no idea how they'll be taken as the nature of the music might be less light hearted and more artistic.

I'm trying designs that appear to be vector based (just practice) and they look suitable for such an event but might just be pointing in the wrong direction. I require the feedback of the group and lecturers as I don't know whether to boast or drop my head in shame.

Oh and an actual post regarding course work

Website design is going swimmingly right now thanks to help and guidance, feeling pretty good that it actually looks like it's almost done. Need to edit a text box on dreamweaver and Stuff, I think everything is done, best get my development together for show. it's minimal, but it'll just have to do. Illness, and I guess laziness on this unit are my downfall. i gotta be honest, this isn't my strongest unit (euphemism) completed even considering the 3 weeks off and the surprise brief, I wasn't doing all that much anyway so it's probably a point I acknowledge that.

My main goals (once this unit that hurts my head is over) is to get ready for the new unit coming up with the client initiated project. The fact that people from outside the college are coming in for this one makes this a whole lot more significant and I should heed that. Im thinking about avoiding my own style this time (as it's often experimental or new to me) and try something that i can base on my research and development. I don't even know what Ill be designing, the other class is apparently doing brew dog, but I have a strong suspicion that i will not be doing a beer company.

Let's see if i can predict, with my wish list. This is purely for fun, nothing more. Will post back when i learn what we got.
I think I heard this one focus' on new media solely. An animation would be fun, it's in groups which makes my struggle more so, but whatcha gonna do. I like working in groups, but as the animator, if I do that, i will be doing someone else's drawings. That's not really a problem, but just leave me with 10 cups of coffee, a pack of smokes and I'll be working for hours.

advertisment for: beer!
telephone company (possibilities are endless)
television commercial (like the E4 one)
design studio advert or something

on the more creative side of thinking:
a commercial for television shows
a short art based film, sheerly for expressing an idea, then presenting a product
Anti-labour government (hahah, yeah right)
holiday commerial

or maybe a jokey kind of animation about a music festival.

wHAT if it isn't animation? or if my group declines my choice? too bad for me i suppose. Wouldn't mind trying my animation skills again though.

Oh yes! doing the splash page!
p.s. sorry that was sooooooo long.

This is very cool!

This is the work of John K. The animator and creator of the famously stupid yet daring show, ren and stimpy. The song is tenacious D singing, it's at the start of their movie, quite cool to see them in cartoon form, he also did the animation for the music video **** her gently.

John K is a strange lonely kind of man probably.

The reason this stood out is, well, who the hell would commission something like this?

(p.s. SEXUAL THEMES OF A CARTOON NATURE AND CRUDE LANGUAGE, IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY THIS OR THINK IT'S STUPID, THEN DON'T WATCH!)

George liquor is a big reason why nickelodeon stopped the show. his right wing, self righteous attitude makes fun of the common american veteran. His last name was wrong for kids, his attitude was wrong, and nickelodeon stupidly commissioned an adult television show, which is understandably done due to the stupidity at first glance.

also actual ren and stimpy, stupidly it has taken me 20 years to understand why this is funny, it makes fun of the american dream, and parodies the styles of old 50's cartoons like betty boop and popeye.

update quickly afer the last

I realised my files were all over the place and that the style meant that one would look different from the other so now I have psd files with all the layers and folders needed to make my job easier. here's both the home and products page, both in the same style and file.

Product page intro

this is the bit inbetween the home page and the products available. i THINK i've polished it enough, going to take photos of various clothes and skateboards, slapping the company logo onto them as i GO ALONG. worth while doing this over the next couple of days when Im at home.

just realised

My website says find us twice..... I am an idiot. I kinda mixed up the images in my sketchbook and the instructions for what the site must have therefore having two of the same link. Oops. fixing at moment along with a little more development on the products page, the map, the order form and the feedback and contact and the......... man I've messed up.

The site with cutout effect applied carefully.

had to redo a couple of parts but this really does look quite nice as opposed to the other style of graphics and considering the lines were getting messy anyway, this may be the way to do it. Check out the style, looks like water colours or inks and just brings everything together quite nicely. Simple technique wins again? Dunno, it makes things less clear so some experiments will need to be done before the final site is made. Running out of time but still trying to have fun.

this is an about page, plus will do one similar for the map

yup, the titles says pretty much all I needed to. Seems like the image has blurred but may be able to sharpen up. I know the green may seem sore on the eyes but I wanted to keep with the theme of the hospital and make all the machinery work as it does. With green text for about and red for the map. The map might be made to look digital (red lines and words on the blank screen).

Today I worked at home, because.....

I had the use of photoshop, and scanner and peace nad quiet (or so I thought). Family been getting me to do annoying little tasks, disrupting work, got in trouble when my brother was caught smoking, been shown stupid photo albums, had to walk the dog and when I finally got peace my folks came in to tell me I should be doing something useful like cleaning my room. I'm going to go to college more now. Wacom might mean drawing by hand rather than mouse which is great but my god, even the youtube videos are less distracting.

I needed to get that out, very bad mood. Took me all day to do this. I'm a little freaked by this. One might call out for a case of justifiable homicide.

On topic, been doing this site according to sketches and bref, seen we need to have order form feedback and contact together with these scripting things. Will ask in class. The whole thing looks fun, and different as I had inteded but still, we will see how the final piece looks.
